The faint sound of thunder growls from a distance. All over the woods where your settlement's positioned, an ever-present fog lingers and shrouds all corners in uncertain mystery, almost like fate has something to hide. To explore further than the outpost would be foolish, as dull, black cloud topped off with a blacker night sky suggests. Indeed, the smartest thing to do would be to do nothing at all, but that plan is met with criticism as soon as you bring it up with the others; one person's voice speaking out louder than the rest:

"But we'll all die! How can we fend ourselves if we're attacked? Can't we just keep going?"

You explain to everyone why, pointing out that it would be more of a danger to march through the thick mists and lose each other, but in your mind you know that nobody's safe either way. Despite being the officially-appointed leader, you've never had real experience leading actual human beings in life-or-death situations! You can feel the pressure stacking up already; knowing already that there's always more to the outside world than you can expect, especially in this new, new world.

"Well, alright then, so when we sleep we'll be torn apart by wolves." a woman mutters under her breath. A man next to her, most probably her husband, mutters back "The bigger danger would be if we freeze to death..."

"No, sir, no, we will not freeze to death," you interject, "There are leaves here we can use to make beds. The temperature's not as cold as you think, either. As long as we all crowd round a big fire everything will be fine and we can journey forwards to a better place tomorrow."

The man opens his mouth to respond, but instead flinches back without saying a word.

"And to answer your question, ma'am, two people will be designated the night guards. They will watch out for any danger while the rest sleep, each one being given an individual shift tonight. Agreed - is that fine with everybody?"

Heads nod.

"Okay, good."

Success. Your commanding words seem to have made sense to everyone; morale has temporarily increased. Time's lost on all here but you're sure that the people would now much rather stay and sleep on the grassy moor than venture further as they originally protested for. You wander across to the leafiest set of trees with the citizenry to collect bedding materials.
