From there they went down the length of the city, trying to remain roughly in the center of it. Whenever Alexandria found anything, they broke off their path and investigated. Several of the first targets they came across were less than interesting, including another run-in with Randy. The two also witnessed a fight between some girl and the teenage boy who had made such a fuss in the lab's holding area. They decided it was best to stay uninvolved and continued searching.
"How many of us are there?"
Alex and Mark found themselves using an unusual elevated walkway that connected the buildings in the area they were in, but it was sometimes more convenient to go off the path and jump from building to building if they were packed close together.
"Right now, I can sense eight. Going by the number we just encountered, and the number of people who were present during that man's introductory speech, twenty would be a low estimate."
Mark ran and built up speed for his next jump. He still by no means liked being trapped in this body of his, but he found some of its abilities rather mesmerizing. His powerful leaps let him feel as if he was flying. Feeling the air on his legs and through his hair only enhanced the feeling.
"This is so wrong that it's... I don't even know. I mean why not ask people? I'm sure I that I would have considered being part of his project if he told me it would make me superhuman and he gave me a choice."
Alex landed right behind him.
"You have hindsight. I'm sure your skepticism would be much higher if you had not gone through it yourself. I still can't figure out how he did this. I don't even have the faintest theory."
"And you're pretty smart too. This guy must be a genius, too bad he's evil."
Mark thought over his words for a minute as he leapt to another building.
"Actually, you're really smart. What were you before this? A scientist? A professor? Some agent working for the government?"
Alexandria moved her lips, but quickly and reflexively squashed her expression, keeping her collective demeanor unbroken.
"Hardly. I was a student at The Academy for Excellence and Guidance. It is a high school for girls. I was departing the lab after staying late to complete some research I started on my own initiative. That's when everything went blank for me. I woke up in this body, and I'm sure you can figure out the rest."
"Wow, high school. Just like me! You're even smarter than I thought, you're no older than I am."
Alexandria frowned slightly.
"I currently look a decade older than you at least."
Mark felt a little bad for reminding her of this fact, but it was the reality of the situation.
"Do you think we can trust them? I mean they said there would be a prize, but..."
Alexandria grabbed him.
"Wait, there are two people near by." Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
