Conversations stopped, people held their drinks in their hands, and more than a few pickpockets stilled their hands, just barely touching their targets' money purses or pouches.
"What are you lot looking at?" said the goblin behind the counter. "If demon-lover's coin be good, he welcome here."
At this, things were business as usual, conversation resumed, eating and drinking, and so on.
"I'm no demon lover," Revan muttered as he stepped forward, and walked towards the counter.
"So, what do you want?" the goblin asked.
"Some good food, a good drink, and a bed to sleep in," Revan said as he put his money pouch on the counter.
"How about a woman?" the goblin asked with a mad grin. "Might get you one for a nice bargin."
An elfen woman's face came to Revan's firey green eyes, which caused his lips to turn up slightly. Then, they turned down, into a deep frown.
"No thanks on the woman," he said with a sigh. "I couldn't touch another, not after..... it happened."
"I understand," the goblin said with a sigh. "Lost some of my own family to the Undead."
"So, how about a trade?" Revan asked.
"What you got?" the goblin asked, his grin returning. "And what you want in return?"
"Information, for information."
"What do you have?"
"The location of a man who is planning to steal from you."
"What do you want to know?"
"If anyone is doing any hiring for a guard or some such thing."
At this, the goblin began stroking his face.
"Well," he said. "There is a small caravan leaving in the morning. I hear that they are looking for a few guards."
"And where would they be?"
"They are staying at the Brown Dog. It's the stable on the North end of town. I hear the cargo is something rare."
"Thank you," Revan said as he took a few gold coins out of his pouch. "Your thief is in the alley across from the tavern."
"You're welcome, and that will pay for everything."
"Good," Revan said as he turned around. "I'll be back later for the food and room."
As Revan walked down the street towards the stable, he saw a few people watching him. One was a human man who was armed with a sword. Another was a male dwarf who was armed with a warhammer. A third was a human woman. She seemed to be the one in charge, if the amulat around her neck was any indication.
A sorceress from Dalaran, Revan thought. Well, at least getting magic should be easy, if they hire me. Where will this story go next? Your choices are below...
