Chapter 2: The Manliest Man of Them All! The Great Kamina!   (ID #962665)

"Bro! Bro! Look what I've found!" Simon said, his face and body smudged with dirt as he ran towards Kamina.

Kamina, his katana slung over his shoulder, smiled as he looked back at his little bro. "Hey Simon! What's up? You find something while you were digging again?"

"Yeah! Look!" Simon held up a small key of some kind. "What do you think it is bro?"

"Huh...looks like a key. Wonder what it unlocks?" Kamina said, leaning down to examine it.

"I know! Come on! There's something down there I want to show you!" Simon said, practically jumping up and down with excitement. Kamina laughed and said, "Okay, okay, lead the way!"

Kamina always loved it when Simon was passionate about something. He almost never got excited about anything, preferring to be quiet and withdrawn. If he was getting excited, there must be something REALLY cool down in the ground! Kamina grinned as he felt a sense of excitement rising inside himself as well. He had a feeling...something big was going to happen! Something amazing!

Simon ran over to a wall and jumped into the hole he had been digging and scurried into the tunnel he had dug like a mole. Kamina, being almost twice as tall as Simon, had a little more trouble crawling through the hole. His shoulders were pressing against opposite walls while is arms had to be extended out in front of him. He dragged himself through after Simon, watching as the boy got further and further ahead. "Hey Simon! Does this tunnel open up anywhere?"

"It gets a little wider further down!" He shouted back. "Just keep crawling!"

Kamina laughed and muttered to himself, "Not like there's much else I can do!"

The two brothers crawled, scraped, and moved down the tunnel, the passage getting wide enough that Kamina could eventually crawl in it, though it was still a tight fit. Finally, they ended up in a small opening. Simon knelt on the left, pointing at something ahead. Kamina sat down, his bigger body filling up the last of the room in the opening, and looked where Simon was pointing. "What is it?"

Simon scraped aside some of the dirt and said, "It looks like a machine of some kind."

Kamina looked it over and said, "Huh...it kind of looks like a gun. You know what I mean? Except it's attached to some kind of...I don't know....button things."

Technology was lacking in Kamina and Simon's hometown. Neither one had ANY idea what a computer or a console was, so they had no idea what they were looking at. Kamina grabbed the barrel and started tugging. "B-Bro! What are you doing?"

"What does it look like? I'm pulling this thing out!" Kamina grunted, pulling on the machine. With a few hearty tugs, the gun came loose. "Ha! Got it!"

Simon, who was now pressed between a dirt wall and the gun, said, "M-Maybe we should take it to a place where we have more room!"

"Good idea! Let's go!"

It was a rough trip back. Simon had to dig the tunnel bigger to get the large metal box through the tunnel. After what felt like hours, they dumped the box out of the tunnel on the ground. All the lights were off. They had been in the tunnel so long, night had fallen. Kamina grinned and said, "Good! Less chance of anyone trying to steal our new treasure!"

Kamina lifted the machine easily and balanced it on his shoulder, carrying it to a hidden spot to examine it. In a small alcove, enough light filtered down to allow them to see. The two boys set out to start cleaning the machine, knocking all the dust off of it so they could get a better look. While they were doing this, Simon noticed a small hole to the right of the console. "Hey bro look at this!"

Kamina walked over and said, "Hey...I think that's a key hole!"

Simon dug in his pocket and pulled out the key. "Do you think it'll fit?"

Kamina grinned and said, "Only one way to find out!"

Simon stuck the key inside and turned. Instantly the machine sprang to life, humming, while the buttons all lit up on the console. Kamina crouched down and scratched his chin. "I wonder how this thing works..."

Before Simon could venture any guesses, Kamina began to pound on the machine, hitting buttons at random. "Bro! You're going to break it!"

"No way! These things always respond to force! Just watch!" He stood up and slammed his bare foot against the buttons, the gun part of the machine suddenly turning to point at Kamina...and firing! Kamina was thrown back as a beam of energy hit him square in the chest, his whole body glowing for a minute as he slammed into the wall. "Bro! Bro! Are you okay?!?"

The machine had died down, the lights no longer blinking. It seemed to have shut itself off. Kamina groaned and shook his head, dirt falling from his blue hair. "Yeah, I'm fine..."

He glared at the machine and jumped up, running over and kicking it, hard. The machine beeped a few times then fell silent. "Stupid machine! Trying to attack the great Kamina!"

"Let it go bro!" Simon said, tugging on Kamina's arm. "Let's just go to bed!"

Kamina looked down at Simon who yawned suddenly, his eyes drooping. Kamina smiled and said, "Yeah, alright little guy. Let's go to bed." He picked up the machine and they walked back to their sleeping area. They shared a spot together, where no one else was. Kamina hid the machine in a small dug out area Simon dug and then pulled the blanket up and over Simon and himself. Simon cuddled up close to Kamina, who wrapped an arm around him, holding him close.

"Night bro...."

"Night Simon..."

Within minutes, both boys were fast asleep.
