Witch Hill is a town best known for its Halloween Parades and Halloween parties....and a strange tree known locally as the Witch Tree...or the Devil's Tree by some. You are Paul Howe, the direct relation to Tobias Howe who founded the city in 1840. Tobias Carter Howe, Jr was a newspaper editor originally from New York who had retired in the state of Maine and founded his own city along with his wife.....who happened to be a witch (according to legend). The name of Tobias's wife has been lost to history....in fact, there's very little known about Catherine Howe (nee Parker). It is said that Catherine was the best cook in New England and that she was hanged for her crimes of witchcraft. Catherine was hanged at the large oak tree in the center of town. Since she was hanged, the tree is said to be haunted by Catherine. It is said that whoever sleeps under the tree on Halloween night (the night that Catherine was hanged) at midnight and calls forth her name, Catherine will appear. Only one painting of Catherine has survived; Catherine was a very beautiful woman with blond hair and mystical blue eyes.
Since you're related to Catherine Howe, you've been the butt of jokes. The Howe family in general has been looked down upon since the news of Catherine being a witch came out. Every Halloween night since you were ten years old, you've slept under the Witch Tree (as it's called) and waited for you Great-Great-Great Grandmother to show up....but she hasn't showed up ever. You're not the only one who sleeps under the tree on Halloween night; your best friend David also sleeps under the tree on Halloween to keep you company.
It is now just 3 days until Halloween and the town of Witch Hill is ready to have its 53rd Annual Halloween Parade. At this years parade, someone will dress up as Catherine Howe--that honor will fall on you since you're Catherine's relation and the fact that you have somewhat girly hair, which is dirty blond. The parade is almost never held on Halloween day (although it had been in 1968, 1977 and 1992). After the parade, you've been invited to a Halloween party which you plan to attend. The invite came from the new woman in town who moved into the city three months ago, Pamela Hardin.
