The next day, Keith was about to head on to Pettleburg City, where he was told a gym was. But the path to Route 102, which led to Pettleburg, was blocked by some kid who thought he found the footprints of a rare pokemon and intended to fallow them to it. Deciding to just look around, Keith instead headed north to Route 103 to see if he could find any cool pokemon.

With an hour of no success, he decided to let Whismur and Hoothoot out of their pokeballs to play. Hoothoot quickly just flew up a tree and took a nap, it being daytime, and Whismur just played around with some Tailow. Figuring they'd be fine, Keith wondered off to the nearby ;ale to think of how much this region would hold in store for him. It was there, sitting on a tree stump, he saw her.

There was a cute brown haired trainer with twin-tails, a red bandanna, and a red shirt with blue shorts sitting on a tree stump painting her toenails. Keith couldn't help thinking she was cute as could be and introduced himself. "Hey there, I'm Keith." He said as he approached.

The girl looked up at him and smiled. "Oh, hi there. I'm May, nice to meet you." she said. The two lapsed into a conversation about Hoenn and themselves when Keith challanged May to a battle, forgetting he didn't have his pokemon with him. "Um, sorry. But I have to decline. My Torchic was attacked by a Wurmple on the way here and is resting at the Pokemon Center right now." May answered. Now realizing he had no pokemon on hand either, Keith nervously chukled and said it was fine.

"I just came out here to check out the surroundings. Its a dead end this way." May explained. "And to work on your nails, too?" Keith lightly jeered. May rolled her eyes. "You like? I was bored and just wondered if red was my shade." May asked.
Keith looked down at her feet and shrugged. "Looks fine." He answered. May thanked him and then got her shoes back on. "I hate to leave like this, but I need to go check on my Torchic." She said as she left with a wave. Keith waved back, saying he'd see her around. After that, he rounded up Whismur and Hothoot and went back to Oldale Town.
