Over the next few days, Kate noticed how much more food there was around her apartment. Munching on some chips, she walked out to the living room and found Renee on the couch, watching something on television, a beer in her hand.

"Anything good on?" Kate asked.

Renee gave a grunt and took a swig of her drink.

"I see..." Kate took a seat beside her anyway and the pair chatted about various things while vaguely paying attention to the screen.

"So," Renee asked after half an hour of small talk, "seeing anyone?"

Kate didn't detect a hint of suggestion in her former lover's tone and decided to answer her truthfully. "No. A few dates, here and there, but nothing came out of them. What about you?"

"No dates, though I have had a few bedroom encounters."

"Were they better than me?" Kate asked.

"Actually two were nervous, one was too demanding, and the last tried to kill me. So I would say no."

Kate grinned at that and reached a hand for another fistful of chips but found that the bag was empty.

"I'll go get you some more, just stay there," Renee said, getting up and stretching a bit before heading towards the kitchen.

As she stretched, Kate caught a bit of pudge around Renee's normally toned middle, the extra pounds pooching out and creating a tiny belly.

Blushing a bit at the sight, Kate soon shook her head.

She and Renee were done.

So why was her heart still pounding?
