This choice: Meanwhile, Inuyasha asks Cassandra if he can return to Earth | Go Back

Chapter 34: Bigger Problems   (ID #432653)
an addition by: ShinseiKyouto  More by this author

As Koga was sentenced to his eternal damnation, Inuyasha was standing by as Cassandra sent soul after soul on to Heaven or down to Hell. He was getting annoyed that she was just ignoring him as she went about her business, filing reports, answering phone calls, opening the gate, pushing the button to Hell. Finally he shouted, "HEY!!!"

She looked up and said, "What are you still here?"

Inuyasha face faulted and shouted, "Of course I'm still here! You haven't done a damn thing to bring me back to life yet!"

"Oh! How silly of me!" She said, standing up from behind her desk and changing back into her robes. She clapped her hands, rolled back her sleeves and pulled out what appeared to be a silver base ball bat.

"What are you going to do with that thing?" Inuyasha asked with some trepidation. He didn't have his Testsusaiga with him and this woman had proved to be mighty tricky.

"I'm going to use this bat to erase your memories of this place until it's your time to die. It will also send you back down to Earth in your Universe. Enjoy!"

She pulled back and was just about to swing when a sudden surge of souls appeared in a line in front of the gate. She faltered and looked as the line got longer, stretching away into the distance. She dropped her bat with a look of shock and said, "This can't be! Death like this hasn't been seen since the Dark Ages of the Multiverse."

"What are you talking about now?" Inuyasha asked with exasperation.

"I-I just can't believe it!" Cassandra said, ignoring Inuyasha's question. "It was always said that this day would come again! But...Washu will know what to do."

With new purpose, Cassandra reached to an empty space on her desk and grabbed the phone that appeared under her hand. She dialed a number and put the reciever to her ear. She paused for a few seconds then said, "This is Cassandra, Boss. It looks like the time has come again. Yes, the line is stretching beyond my sight. Yes, deaths from every Universe. What do you mean 'The Prophecy'? Yes, I have someone here with me...Really? He doesn't seem like he would be up to doing something like that. What? Of course not! No, I--Yes. Yes. Who else? Oh dear, this might be difficult...Of course. He'll be right there."

She hung up the phone and turned back to Inuyasha. She said, "Washu wishes to speak with you. All I can say is be polite and take whatever she says to heart. This is important."

Inuyasha was surprised at this sudden change in Cassandra's behavoir. He nodded and said, "How to do I get up there?"

For an answer, Cassandra drew something on her desk that caused a button to appear. She pressed it, sinking the button back into the woodwork. The Gates swung open but instead of revealing Heaven a tightly spiraling staircase was revealed.

"Just take the stairs as high as you can go. But don't get distracted by anything. She's expecting you so don't keep her waiting." Cassandra said, sitting down and pulling a huge book towards her. She opened it and started to write something occasionally stopping to talk to a soul. Inuyasha turned towards the staircase and started up. Cassandra was right. It was distracting. After only three minutes of climbing upward the spiral twisted off and Inuyasha was left with dozens of staircases leading to impossible places. Staircases that were upside down hung over his head and trailed down walls. A few staircases even appeared to start nowhere and end nowhere, just kind of hovering in space with no apparent purpose. Inuyasha closed his eyes to block out the dizzying choices and continued on his path upward. Before long, he slammed into a door. Opening his eyes he saw a plain wooden door that stated: Washu's Office.

"Well, here goes nothing." Inuyasha said as he knocked on the door.

"Come in!" A voice called from within.

Inuyasha opened the door and stepped into the office of the most powerful being in the Universe.
