As X finished his story, one thought was foremost in Zero's mind.

"Did you bring the gun with you?"

X grinned and pulled it out.

"So can I uh...see it?" Zero asked innocently.

"I don't think so! This is mine exclusively for now shorty!"

Zero was about to reply scathingly, when an alarm started buzzing throughout the base. A robotic voice sounded

"Warning. Warning. Maverick attack. Maverick attack."

X and Zero looked towards the horizon and saw an army of Mavericks closing in and fast! Zero readied his sword, prepared to fight.

"Are you going to fight in a towel?" X asked.

Zero looked at himself and swore.

"I'll be right back!"

"Take your time..." X said, not worried in the least.

The attacking Mavericks were being led by someone far away, as a quick scan detected no traces of higher powered Mavericks. Swarms of the little robots approached the base. But they didn't attack. X stared at them until one stepped forward and yelled out.

"We've come for the gun you stole from us!"

X rolled his eyes and said, "Like I'm going to just give it back!"

And with that, he stomped on the offending Maverick. This seemed to trigger the other Mavericks, as they all began to attack. The base's defense systems kicked in and helped X as he made quick work of the attaking Mavericks.
