You know that everyone can see you and with this school environment, people are going to be trying to read your every action for its intent. There's also the fact that you're in normal clothes and no bathing suit, which means obviously that you're not going to be able to easily blend in and stay with the tryouts.
Most of the students raise their heads and watch you for brief bursts, some longer than others, and then switch their attentions back to the 6 students splashing up and down their columns. The instructor keeps focused on her potential new team members until you come within a reasonable speaking range. "Nice job, Spencer and Monique! You guys are miles ahead of the other guys! 2 more times!" She turns to you after her little exhortation to some of the swimmers. You can see she has mostly trust on her face, so she's not as guarded as you thought initially with the blunt banner. "Well, kid, whaddya want? If you're here for try-outs, you'll need your own suit. School ones are for team members only. Or, if you're a beginner, we also do basic swimming lessons every Wednesday after school," she adds.
