I squeezed my eyes and held onto the stool I sat upon as if my life depended on it. My hands were hot with sweat, making my grip slip. A chill travelled through my body as I reacted to my small fall. I knew that the hat sitting on top of my head decided my future as a wizard and I assure you, that is a good reason to be feeling nervous. My stomach did a few somersaults before I was able to sit straight again.
I whispered, "Please not Slytherin, please not Slytherin, please no," in hopes that the hat would listen more to my speech than my thoughts.
Why would a guy like me be worried about what house I got into at a prestigious wizarding school?
It all started when I met a kid named Ron on the train. He seemed like a pretty nice guy but very skittish. He sat with me and his family helped me out.
"All wizards who find themselves placed in the house of Slytherin end up with well... you-know-who..."
"Shut up Weasley, you hardly know anything," Draco, the boy with the blond hair, snapped. For the rest of the train ride I could feel the tension building between Draco and Ron.
"Please not slytherin..." I prayed again.
I could tell that the hat didn't like my attitude. He made a weird snarling sound when I raised my whisper a little louder. I shuddered.
"Great things await you in Slytherin, don't turn it down," the hat said.
I could feel my curiousity exploded inside me. I kept wondering what it would be like to be in Slytherin. I mentally slapped myself. Being in Slytherin would mean eternal slavery!
"Syltherin!" The hat announced.
Perhaps Ron will get sorted into the same house. Perhaps Draco will get into the same house. Heck! It was possible that anyone could end up in the same house. I knew that my mind wasn't thinking quite straight when I felt the world whir around me.
I looked around, seeing the table full of people in green robes stand and roar with cheers.
