Welcome to the Contests & Activities Newsletter. I am Shannon and I'm your editor this week.

Raffles and Auctions and Groups, Oh My!

We all know contests abound here on WDC, but what about the other stuff? What about all those items created just for fun? What about cNote shops and raffles and auctions? What about Ins & Outs, Campfires and signature shops? What about crosswords, word searches and groups? Then there are Interactives and Madlibs and quizzes; surveys, polls and photo albums.

Sheesh! Writing.com has so much to offer its members. Isn't it time you discovered them? Now's the time to broaden your horizons, and that's where I come in.

It's June. The kids are out of school enjoying summer vacation. When was the last time you did something fun? Something just for you? I have decided to dedicate this NL to just that. All the featured items in this issue were chosen to make you smile, unwind, and maybe even win something for yourself while simultaneously helping others. After all, isn't that the way WDC rolls?

Have fun, and write on!

There are many contests and activities to choose from here on WDC. I’ve tried to include a wide variety here, so hopefully you’ll find something to light a fire under your muse.

Feedback

This feedback is in response to "Contests & Activities Newsletter (May 13, 2009)

busy, taking a break from WDC says, "I've had a similar experience before; it isn't a feeling I'd recommend! Thanks for featuring my contest." It's a horrible feeling, and you are so welcome!

Lena Writes says, "I can't agree more with you when it comes to checking the rules and dates; especially the dates! I had recently missed a deadline by 1 hour! I read the AM/PM part incorrectly. Opps!" It seems we've all done it at least once. Hopefully we don't do it again. *Blush* Thanks for the feedback, Alesia!

qwiksilver says, "You know, I did the same thing ... sort of. I got my dates mixed up. I was working in the past on some documents at work and forgot what the real date was. Oh well, keep the story. That subject will come up in another contest some day." If nothing else I DID get a pretty dang good story out of the deal. *Bigsmile* Thanks for reading and commenting.

Rixfarmgirl says, "With all the irons you have in the fire, I am not surprised you missed your deadline. So sorry, but maybe they will run the contest again and you can be first to submit. This is a good lesson for all of us ... especially people like me who glance through the rules. Good newletter and nice mix of contests and activities. YOU ROCK!" Aw, you are so sweet. Thank you for your support and friendship. *Kiss*

Acme says, "Oh, you poor thing! I think we've all missed a deadline by accident before ... unless it's just you and me. *Frown* *Heart*" Geez, I hope it's not just you and me! LOL This was a great reminder to read (and re-read) the rules. That won't happen again (at least I hope it doesn't)!

Giselle says, "I was, so far lucky to have submitted my items on time. But I had to check several times and make sure I was on the safe side of the time frame. As a person who runs contests, I have had a lot of people ask me to accept their 'real life' excuses to accept their tardy submissions. That is just not fair. Life happens, but when 20 follow all the rules, one or two just can't expect to be excluded above others." Exactly! It isn't fair to those who actually read and follow the rules when exceptions are made for those who don't. I couldn't agree more, and I've included your contest to the list of submitted items below. Thank you!

Silva Shado says, "I'm so sorry to hear that you did all that work, wrote a 12,000 word story, and missed the deadline. On the other hand, looking on the positive, would you have written a 12,000 word story without the contest motivating you to do so? Hopefully there'll be something you can submit it to in the future, maybe even a publication. *Bigsmile* And thanks so much for featuring my writing challenge. I really appreciate it." You are so right! I wouldn't have written a 12k story had it not been for the contest ... and it may be the best thing I've ever written. I have had people who've read it suggest I submit it for publication, so maybe.... Thank you for the encouragement, and thank you for taking the time to read and comment. And it was my pleasure to feature your writing challenge!
