Stationed with the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Federal Republic of Germany (as it was called at the time I was there), I developed a hunger for taking pictures. In the three years I was in Europe, I took and developed more than 5000 slides and pictures. Obviously I can't include them all here, nor would I subject you to such an undertaking.

But I am including some of my favorite pics for your viewing pleasure. More will be added as I have time. These were taken in the early 80's.

The first ten were taken in France, specifically Paris. The following pics are from places in Germany.

Paris is a beautiful city by night. This was one of many fountains in the city.Photo: Eiffel Tower
A different look by night.Photo: Basilica of the Sacré Cœur
Located on the top of Montmartre, this structure towers over Paris and the scores of artists who set up easels each day to paint.

Every day, artists set up easels below the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur and paint. I was amazed at the talent we saw when we visited.Photo: Venus de Milo
The Louvre opened to the public in 1793. The Venus de Milo was added to the Louvre's collection during the reign of Louis XVIII (circa 1815).Photo: Versailles

The tallest mountain in the German Alps, the Zugspitz towers some 10,000 feet. That's me at the top left of the picture. Photo: The Zugspitz
From that spot you can see six countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. What a view!Photo: Climbing to the Summit
That last 50 to 100 meters was pretty hairy. But the view from the Zugspitz summit was worth the effort.Photo: Fasching
Also called Carnival, Fasching a festive season that occurs immediately before Lent; this parade took place in February.

This event typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, masque and public street party. This parade took place in Mainz, Germany.Photo: A Garmisch street sign

A two-dimentional picture does this community NO justice.
 Photo: Rhine Aflame
The timeframe escapes me now, but this activity commemorates the burning of the castles along the Rhine River some 3-400 years ago. It is one crowded river during this time with hundreds of boats and... [Click For More] Photo: Untitled
