We are a proud family of 9 dogs, 11 cats, 2 horses, 2 ring-necked doves, and a passel of chickens.  Oh, yeah, two humans.

We used to have rabbits, Boer Goats, turkeys, quail, geese, ducks, pigeon, guineas, and a partridge in a pear tree.  Okay, so we didn't have a partridge.  But we do have Roadrunners on the property every now and then - along with armadillos, raccoons, skunks, foxes, snakes, toads, frogs, turtles, lizards, and various kinds of birds and insects.  We also have honey bees, a hive in the wall of an old building on our property.

This photo album contains pictures of most of the family - birds and humans not included at this time.  Stories of many of the animals, current and past - pictured here and not -  can be found in

Stories of and by the animals in my life - and me
by Karen
Some of the stories are told by the animals.
 Photo: Buffy
Buffy is a Miniature Schnauzer, but more important is that she is my heart. She is one of our dogs who was "dumped" on our property. When the weather allows, Buffy goes everywhere with me. ... [Click For More] Photo: Cassie
Cassie the Rottweiler. We bought Cassie in 2006 when she was 8 months old. She developed severe hip dysplasia when she was 6 months old. In 2008, she had two hip surgeries called "Head and Neck... [Click For More] Photo: Rocky
Rocky the Rottweiler is 9 years old. We bought Rocky in 2002. He is a very obedient dog. He was raised with cats and pays them no mind. He loves to be in the house in the AC.Photo: Tristan
Tristan "Knight of the Round Table" is an official Brown Dog. In my port, you can read his story in his own words. You will notice he does not have on a collar. Franky enjoys taking off Tri... [Click For More] Photo: Franky
Franky is a Plott Hound. He is one of the ones "dumped" on our property. Franky was a tiny puppy when we found him. He had really bad mange and was starving. Now he is one very tall, fine ... [Click For More]
 Photo: Little Bit
Little Bit appears to be a hybrid dog called a Corgidor. (Labrador Retriever and Welsh Corgi). She is one of the dogs dumped on our property.Photo: Reyna and Maddie
Reyna might be part Miniature Pinscher. Maddie is a Rat Terrier. Both were dumped on our property. Reyna was a puppy, and Maddie was full grown. They came to us just a few weeks apart and have been... [Click For More] Photo: Marcus (and Maddie, Franky, Reyna)
Marcus is a 5 month old puppy, part Boxer. He was tied to a fence and left to be killed by coyotes which would have assuredly happened if we had not found him the Saturday before Easter. He has been... [Click For More] Photo: Angel
Angel's eyes are blue, but not that blue. I enhanced them. Angel is a boy cat and is Mr. Sweetie's and Sissy's natural brother. He has several nicknames: Angel-Baby, "Angelica,"... [Click For More] Photo: Mr. Sweetie
Born on the farm to a stray cat, he was one of four kittens in 2004. We found a home for one (Missy) and still have Mr. Sweetie, Sissy, and Angel. Mr. Sweetie is what his name implies.
 Photo: Scooter
Scooter is also known as Stealth Kitty and Scooter-Booter. He was a little kitten when I found him on the road in 2004. He is our "in charge" cat - no one messes with Scooter.Photo: Sissy
Sissy posed this pic one Christmas all by herself. She likes pretty things, silky fabric, and leather. Sissy is a BIG girl, a full figured woman. She is also called Sissy-Swaggels. Photo: Scamper
Also known as Mommy Scamper since she "mommied" another cat's brood when the older even though she had never had kittens. She is also called Buddha. She is assuming her normal position.Photo: Bootsie
Bootsie is my husband's shop kitty. She is a screw-tail Manx.Photo: Max
Max is our newest baby. We found him in a tree on our property a few weeks ago. He currently lives in a dog kennel/crate in my husband's office. He is very laid back and not at all afraid of th... [Click For More]

Cherokee is an Appaloosa mare.Photo: Sundance and Butch
Sundance (the whiter bird) and Butch are Ring-necked Doves. They are not wild "out-of-doors" doves and probably would not make it outside. They coo so loudly at times, I can hardly hear when... [Click For More] Photo: Fritz

 Photo: Buff Orpington Hen
As noted, this is a Buff Orpington Hen. It says in the "literature" they are passive. Not ours! But they are not as aggressive as Barred Rock, thank heaven. They lay brown eggs and are good... [Click For More] Photo: Americana Hen
