A cellphone -- just for calling, or a world unto itself ? |
| Ah, the mighty cellphone! Who could have thought that such a device could evolve into so much for so many. These days your simple 'talkie box' can now send SMS (some even with QWERTY keyboards), take pictures and record video, play MP3s, surf the internet, play video games and show TV programs. They can also be used as 'debit cards' (in Japan) and fashion accessories. They may even replace the family of remote controls in your living room or your car GPS -- although, for now, that is reserved for the ultra-modern PDAs. Representing the ultimate in convergent technologies, as it does, one has to wonder...does anyone other than the occassional annoying person on public transit actually use more than the basic features? I, myself, am a cellphone luddite. In fact, I use my cell only for the very rare phone call (to my wife) and the even more rare SMS message. In some ways, this is strange for a self-proclaimed technophile, but I've never really been enamored with the whole phone-thing, I guess. Anyway, enough background, on with the question: Just what the heck do you use your cellphone for, anyway?
