Poll Question: |
| I wrote some articles on communication disorders for Better Speech and Hearing Month (May) and would like to know the prevalence of these disorders in the WDC community. Responses are anonymous.
Have you been diagnosed with and/or treated for any of these problems?
SPEECH--lisping, difficulty making speech sounds correctly, slurred speech, oral muscle problems (dysarthria, apraxia), dysfluency (stuttering), voice problems (aphonia, dysphonia, vocal nodules); problems related to tracheotomy, laryngectomy, or craniofacial anomaly (cleft lip/palate, etc.)
LANGUAGE--language delay or disorder, dyslexia, reading disability, aphasia
HEARING--hearing loss, deafness, auditory processing disorder
SWALLOWING--habitual choking or aspiration of food, inability to swallow, need for modified diet (pureed food, feeding tube, etc.) due to swallowing problem (dysphagia)
COGNITIVE--memory loss, mental retardation; difficulty with higher-level problem-solving tasks, judgment, or abstract thinking
These problems may be congenital (present from birth), developmental (lack of adequate skill acquisition as a child grows), or acquired (resulting from a head injury, stroke, dementia, tumor, anoxia, toxicity, neurological disease, or other problem).
Please choose the most personal level that applies.
(For example, if both you and your sibling had problems, choose I have.) |
