Hi Everyone,

Please take a few moments to respond to this very short poll. The "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon"  has completed its second year and tried something different each year. Below is an explanation of the processes for calculating team word counts... all I need you to do is vote for the one you like best.

Your responses will help me decide how to run next year's event, and your input is greatly appreciated!


         The 2009 Format. Teams were randomly assigned and word counts were directly added up among all team members. The complaints received about this format were that non-participating writers (those who signed up but did not compete) dragged the team average down.

         The 2010 Format. Teams were randomly assigned, and non-participating writers (those who signed up but did not compete) were disqualified and a multiplier was applied to any team that had fewer members as a result. The multiplier was dependent on the performance of the team, so teams with low word counts would not get much of an advantage, while teams with high word counts could greatly benefit from a multiplier. The complaints received about this format were that the modifier was not a true representation of a team's word count.

         The 2011 Format? Another possibility for next year would be to average out the high and low word counts (either among the team, or the whole activity), and apply that average word count in place of any non-participating writers on a team. The argument against this format would be that, like the 2011 format, the modifier is not a true representation of a team's word count. Additionally, depending on those word counts, some writers might decide to just not write and accept the replacement word count (if it was high enough) rather than trying their best.
