I have a humiliating confession to make: I'm terrified of poets.
Am I unique, or are there others like me out there who are afflicted with this debilitating phobia?
Do you find poets a little crazy, and sometimes wonder whether they're a different species to the rest of humanity? Do you find their technical jargon unfathomable? Are you bamboozled by their arcane discussions? Are you bewildered by how impassioned they become in defending their work against all criticism - real or perceived? Are you flabbergasted by how enraged they become over things like full-stops, commas, colons and semi-colons (not to mention their 'meters')?
Did you once think anybody could write poetry or hold an opinion about a poem, but now aren't so sure? Did you once love dabbling in poetry for fun, but are now too intimidated to get involved with it?
Do you tremble whenever you see a poet?
If your answer is 'Yes' to any of these questions, then maybe you're someone a little like me. However, even if your answer to all these questions is 'No', or even if <shudders> you are a poet, I would like you to take my poll below, so I can gauge how scary poets are considered to be in relation to other groups in society.
Which of the following groups do you find the most scary?
<GreySquirrel scampers away in case there are any poets coming after him>
