This is my folder for short stories (duh!). Each has a story behind it, each one is special.
I am a Jane Austen Fan and always wanted to write in the English of her time, but never got hold of a decent plot. I then came across a prompt in the Writers Block Party Contest, and Homework Blues was born. Another one, Lizzie vs. Emma is named after her two most famous heroines (from Pride and Prejudice and Emma).
To Find Out Why the Winds Die was also written for a contest. The places described in the story are for real, and are as magnificent as described.
The Mango Tree is a mystery to me! It's unlike anything I have ever written and maybe not my best, but is one of those stories which was in my head for ages till I finally gave in and wrote it.
Other authors I admire are Agatha Christie, Gerald Durrel, Roald Dahl, Margaret Mitchelle, Oscar Wilde, O Henry, Saki, JK Rowling and Bill Bryson. It's quite a strange collection (I thought I might skip Enid Blyton!!) but these are authors I grew up reading and continue to love. My writing is obviously influenced by their styles.
