I think Flash Fiction is great practice for letting my creativity loose, without wasting time searching for the perfect plot or fearing failure. I've been pleasantly surprised every time I let myself go where my imagination leads. The contest turnaround time is usually 24 hours, so you have to put aside your anxiety and just write!
