Danny Finnegan is a NYC cop. After growing up in a bad neighborhood, he watched his best friend go down in a hail of gunfire and decided he needed to get out. His decision to attend the police academy was met with skepticism from his family and resulted in him being thrown out of the house. Despite this, he persevered and eventually joined the force, moving up through the ranks to become a detective.

Mallory Sullivan is the youngest of a large Irish-American family. Coddled and loved from birth, she hasn't ever known much tribulation. She is used to cops and the life involved, but had never dated one until she met Danny. In fact, she went out of her way not to date cops. Despite that, she found herself drawn to him from the moment they were introduced by her cousin, Patrick. She co-owns a small boutique called By Special Request in the Village with her college friend, Emily.
