BJ MEETS SPIKE.

BJ was a friendly, curious country bear visiting his city cousin Nikki. Unlike BJ , Nikki was a quite and careful bear cub
One day they were doing an errand for Nikki’s mother. She had told them to be careful when they got near the middle of the park. She said that an old dog lived there and he guarded an old oak tree.
As they entered the park, it started to rain. When they came closer to the old Oak tree the rain stopped. BJ noticed that the dog was gone. He saw a hole half way up the tree and wondered what was inside.

“Nikki” said BJ, “I’m going to see what’s inside the tree.”

“You think you should?” inquired Nikki.

“Sure!” replied BJ . He clawed his way to the hole and leaned inside.
“OOPS!” exclaimed BJ.

“What do you mean OOPS!” yelled Nikki.

“I slipped on some sticky stuff and it’s all over me!” BJ yelled back.

“What is it!”? Nikki asked.

“I don’t know, its dark in here, but this sticky stuff tastes good!” BJ answered.

Just then Nikki spotted the dog coming back. “BJ!” yelled Nikki. “That dog is coming back and he doesn’t look friendly. You better get out of there!”

BJ’s poked his head out of the hole and he began to climb down the tree. He was covered with honey and he slipped on the tree’s bark. He landed with a thud in the middle of a mud puddle, at the base of the tree. BJ laid on the ground covered in both honey and mud. He was a sight! Then BJ saw the dog approach. BJ bit his lip nervously. What would the dog do to him? BJ could see that the dog had a BIG tongue. Suddenly the dog began to lick him.

“Hi! My name is Spike what’s yours?” asked the dog.

“B-B-B J, ”replied BJ. “Why are you licking me?”

“Because your covered in honey and I L O V E honey!” Spike said.

“You’re not going to bite me?” asked BJ.

“Why would I do that?” Spike looked puzzled.

“Because you are always around this tree. We thought you were guarding it.” said BJ.

“Nope, I wasn’t guarding it. I was trying to figure out how to get the honey out of the tree!” Spike said. “Then you fell out of the tree covered in honey! But you could have done without the mud!” chuckled Spike.

BJ was still covered in a sticky goop of honey and mud. He heard his mother calling him. “Nice meeting you Spike.” said BJ. “I have to go home now, see you later.”

At home his mother sent him right to the bathroom for a bath. Nikki joined BJ and they talked about the new friend they had made.

“You know. Spike isn’t a bad dog once you get to know him.” said Nikki.

“He sure has a big tongue!” laughed BJ.
