Ignorance is bliss.

Or at least it used to be for Avrum Brenin. He had been given the gift of immortality, taken in by Lord Henri, and introduced to a world of splendor and great riches. In return, he must do one thing—take care of Haven, a human girl who had been rescued much like himself. The simple task, though, is more complicated than it seems. Haven is disobedient and relentless, ungrateful and sometimes just cold-hearted. And yet she is beautiful and mystifying all at the same time, and Avrum finds himself being pulled toward her in ways that go beyond his responsibility and the lust for blood that plagues his kind.

But when he discovers the truth about Haven and finds out that his new life has been filled with nothing else but darkness and closed-lipped secrets, he realizes that his ignorance has brought him nothing more than pain.
