Ever since I was little, I've loved writing poems. Although I'm often dis-satisfied with the end result, I find the actual process of writing verse great fun and an excellent way to express whatever emotion (anger, ecstasy, complete apathy, etc etc) I happen to be feeling at any given moment.
For me, poetry is about paring down and capturing the essence of your subject. Oh, and playing around with sound. And really keeping it short...
I enjoy the challenge of rhyme and metre but I think my best efforts are usually in free verse, with no pesky constraints on what I want to say. Let me know whether you agree!
