The publication process is slow and arduous These few poems represent submissions of multiple works to some 150 markets, and they sit at the pinnacle of an increasing pile of rejection notices. It is not necessarily the best poets, but rather the most persistent poets, whose works find publication.
Getting a piece published is all about timing. Except in the case of those poems published by the “Bulletin” of the Funeral Director’s Association of Kentucky, who accepted my work because of membership in that organization and because poetry is rare in the professional arena of funeral service, the other works arrived at the right place at the right time.
Believe in your work, submit diligently, and sooner or later you will find someone who believes in you.
