Barnabas retired from Emory University in 2002 and began writing in 2003. Her first piece was published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in December, 2003. In addition to appearing regularly in the AJC, her work has appeared in a variety of both local and national publications. She is a 2004 winner in the statewide O, Georgia! writing competition for new writers.
