I am a nurse/teacher/writer. I wrote for "True Confessions", "Modern Romance", and so on when our son was a baby and made a fair second income doing so. I lean toward humor even on serious topics because I feel this draws the reader in and evokes emotion; we learn and remember best when we are at peak or near-peak emotions (think of how you cannot forget the first song you shared with someone you loved....).
