I am a 50 year old man who just enjoys writing now and then. I have no formal training, in fact, I've never even taken a creative writing class. The closest I've come would be Advanced Technical Communication. I usually just write from my heart for myself, but if someone else enjoys it, so much the better. I dabble in poetry, haiku, short story and humorous non-fiction mostly, but I'll try anything once!
