Presenting a piece of writing for review is like lying with a lover for the first time. You lie naked before this other person who has never experienced you in this way; eyes downcast, waiting for and craving their reaction. Worse, when you believe that your partner is more experienced you know that your most intimate bits, exposed in trust, will be measured and judged. They will be compared to those of past loves, who in your minds eye are far superior. You desperately want to be pleasing. More importantly you want to be seen, really seen, accepted and loved, flaws and all.
