I am a software designer and I think there is not a big difference between writing a computer program and a short story. It should transfer a message to the reader, either a human or a computer, it should achieve a change in the state of mind of the reader, i.e. something to think about, I like stories or books which stay on your mind for weeks or even months after you have read them. In any cases it is a product of the brain and when I'm writing I reveal something from my most private thoughts and let people come closer to me, it is like an invitation.
