I'm fairly new to writing for fun. In real life, I work for an engineering company where I'm the punctuation storm-trooper. You used the semicolon improperly! Dammit, how dare you blaspheme the Oxford Comma! Word-smithing is fun. You get to show how superior you are to the other mouth-breathers who can't tell the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're'. NO! That is NOT the proper use of 'affect'; use 'effect' instead, you idiot! Plus, writers get to trot out fabulous words like 'callipygian' and 'filiopietistic'. Ah, the sweet sound of sesquipedalian prose.
