I began writing at about age 13. Actually, I could write many years before that but that's not the point. I became interested in writing about the same time I was able to admit that I liked girls. I'm not sure if there's a commonality there but anyway... I began messing around on my dad's old Royal typewriter. There's something magical about mechanically assisted verbal expression. I discovered that I could be strange without fear of ridicule. I found a way to sublimate my weirdness. Having physical evidence of abnormality somehow made it legitimate. This was particularly important in my family, as my dad was a Psychologist.
