John Howard Reid has worked in the publishing industry all his life. He started as a sales rep, then purchased a wholesale book business. He later set up two retail bookshops in the heart of Australia's largest city, then accepted a position as managing editor for a large-circulation magazine. He also found time to write film reviews for two rival weekly newspapers and author a number of highly praised mystery novels. Currently he is Chief Judge for three of America's richest literary contests.
