  Summary of this Book...

the people in one small town in Florida, and their struggle for survival after a nuclear detonation. What would you do if your electric power was suddenly cut off? What would you do if you couldn't go to Wal-Mart to get your weekly groceries? What would you do if gas wasn't available at your local gas station? The people in this book get through all these problems by pooling their resources.

  I especially liked...

how the group figures out the things they will do to survive. As they discovered what to do, I kept asking myself, what would I do? It's an eye-opener to see just how far we have gotten away from being self-sufficient.

  I didn't like...

the slow pacing of the beginning.

When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

keep reading about these people.

  This Book made me feel...

hopeful for the future. It made me want to have a survival plan in place if something like that happens in the present.

  The author of this Book...

died in 1964, so he did not live to see the thawing of Cold War relations.

  I recommend this Book because...

it made me think, and it also was uplifting. It is also a quick read. I read it in one sitting!

I don't recommend this Book because...

  Further Comments...

Although this book was written in 1957, the issues are as fresh today. Substitute any rogue nation for that of the USSR, and you can imagine the scenario happening now.
