  Summary of this Book...

The Devil's Chaplain is a phrase first coined by Charles Darwin.

This book is a collection of essays by the Charles Simonoyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University. Dawkins explains in clear language how nature works. He discusses science, genetics, ethics, postmodern intellectualism, human chauvenism and mental viruses.

This book explains the facts, opinions and misunderstandings surrounding the theory of evolution, and general science. There are also essays about education, ethics, history of science and personal tributes.

The essays are short, and very easy to read.

This type of Book is good for...

expanding ones understanding of the world. It is for people who like questions answered but who do not want to be preached to. Every point is clear, entertaining and well supported with facts, evidence and explanation.

  I especially liked...

the lively style of writing. Dawkins is a very humorous and compassionate man. He writes with joy and clarity. Every literate person will find this easy to understand and a fascinating read.

When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

tell everyone about it.

  This Book made me feel...

secure and at peace. The ideas discussed here are so fundemental to our contentment and understanding that I think it should be compulsory reading in schools.

  The author of this Book...

is a very well established writer and thinker. He studied zoology at Oxford, completing his doctorate under the Nobel Prize winner, Niko Tinbergen. He has written six books and won the International Cosmos Prize for 1997, and the Kistler Prize for 2001. He is a fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society for Literature.

  I recommend this Book because...

it is a selection of some of the most profound ideas one is ever likely to come across. It is beautifully written and will inform, educate and stimulate all who read it.

  Further Comments...

Even if you think you know it all; read this book and find out what you might be missing; or at the very least, what every thoughtful seeker of the truth will soon know.

If you read no other book about science, and nature - read this, it may change your life.
