Summary of this Book... | ||
This book is an advanced primer on the most common of structure, style and readability a writer requires. Its handy size and exercises will help even the most knowledgeable in the craft. I am a strict fan of Stunk and White's The Elements of Style, which I keep at my desk and yet will add this volume to the same library. | ||

Any writer or student working with American English (though there is a small section comparing American English usage with British English usage). | ||
I especially liked... | ||
I especially liked the size and presentation of the book. The clarity and ease with which the author conveys rules of style, grammar and punctuation are quite helpful. | ||
I didn't like... | ||
There are exercises at the end of most chapters and I didn't like having the answers to the exercises at the very back of the book. Going back and forth was cumbersome. However, it would be fitting if this were used as a classroom aide. | ||
The author of this Book... | ||
Brandon Royal has a no-nonsense yet non-condescending way of imparting basics all writers, new and old, need from time to time. | ||
I recommend this Book because... | ||
It is a compact volume containing more information and help than it belies. By breaking sections down to principles and then to common uses and misconceptions without extemporaneous drudgery, it employs grammar check for every age. | ||
