  Summary of this Book...

When Brat is accosted by chance in the street, mistaken for an old friend of the family, the greatest--and the most dangerous--adventure of his life begins. Brat is convinced to act the part of Patrick Ashby, a boy who committed suicide, but his body was never found. Can Brat fool the Ashbys into accepting the "long-lost son"? And when he discovers that Patrick's death was not suicide but murder, what will he do? Reveal the murder and thus, himself?

This type of Book is good for...

Anyone that loves mysteries and character-driven stories.

When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...

Read more about the family.

  Further Comments...

THis was a very good mystery story with a detective who wasn't a detective. Tey has a tendency to drop her readers into a middle of a town and family and expect them to get to know the people by sheer repitition, and it does happen, though at first it's a little daunting to remember the names with the descriptions. Then again, I started this while waiting in a noisy room for my car to get its oil changed so the distractions may have magnified the experience. The only other non-spoilerly complaint I have is that I wish the murderer's motives had been more fully explored. "Hate" was offered, but that's so bland a word nowadays. Why did the murderer hate Patrick, a thirteen year old boy? I wonder why and wish that Tey had shown us.
