Ramblings of a Confusted Writer's Mind
Goals, links, and ramblings of my writing life.

Not so much a blog per se as a place to keep track of my links, notes, goals, and progress towards my ultimate goal of being published.

Although I have a regular journal/blog over at http://www.livejournal.com/users/shanachie13 (that I have been really bad about updating), I decided to start this here to keep track of just my writing goals and progress. So I have this and I have dates...and we'll see how this goes. I'd like to attempt to update it each Friday and keep things in progress. That doesn't mean I won't update at other times, but I'm going to commit to once a week for now.

Ultimate goal: To be published.
Time Frame: By December 2009 (does this seem unrealistic?)

Wish me luck!

5.  Progress Or NotID #642314
Posted: 3-26-2009 @ 12:40 pm EDT

I seem to be really bad about keeping this in check, even though I had set up Fridays to do my blogging. So I am going to blog tomorrow for real. I need to get my head on straight in regards to my writing and get some motivation so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

My main issues are not writing wise...well motivation they are...but some problems are going on personal wise that I don't really want to drag into here and that is making me have some writing motivation issues. I'm just having a hard time with some stuff. Anyway, if anyone knows how to get some motivation, I'll take suggestions.

I am still hoping to finish "What if...?" before the deadline, but it needs a title more than anything right now. And I've got some editing to do before my month runs out. All in all...well I'll reflect a little bit more tomorrow as it's the last Friday in March.

4.  Very Late Update Weeks of 2/23 and 3/2ID #639366
Posted: 3-8-2009 @ 12:21 am EST

So I am a bad, bad blogger. I had a bad week the week of 2/23 and didn't really do anything writing-wise...so yeah...ooops. I didn't blog either. So two weeks in one here.

Writing
"What if...? Entry [18+] I worked on this a little and I think I know where I'm going with it...just have to actually write it.

I also wrote Tim and Jo's meeting, because I needed it for something for the dinner:
"First Meeting" http://shanachie13.livejournal.com/121380.html

In addition, I started and posted the first part of "Dinner Party"
http://community.livejournal.com/savecolby/366956.html

I also blogged about fighting and turn-ons in my other journal. I may actually use the knowledge from the first clip in one of my fight scenes one day because it was actually helpful to see the fight broken down.

Editing
Okay...not so good on the editing this week.

I did a little more with "Handbook", but still didn't get it finished.

But woot! on 3/4 I sent three things out to magazines:
"My Muse" went to Aoife's Kiss
"To War" went to New Love Stories
"Never Forget" went to Flash Me Magazine

I need to get "Never Again" edited and sent out, too.

And Storm Machine helped me write a bio to send with "Forget" and out if I need one:
Reb Kreyling is a practicing English teacher. She's been writing for as long as she can remember and always has a notebook with her for that next idea. In her free time, she enjoys listening to Irish music and also uses her writing skills to let soldiers overseas know people back home are thinking of them as part of Soldiers' Angels. In addition, she spends weekends role-playing the period of time she would rather have lived in as part of the medieval re-enactment group, SCA.

Contest--Naughty Niceties
I closed Round Seven and opened Round Eight. I'm hoping to get to the judging in the next few days. New round ends April 30th.

I'm pleased that I got the three things submitted, but I need to keep on better track for getting writing and editing done. But, hey, I am making progress!

So it's Friday...which means I must update and tell y'all what I have been doing writing wise. And see how close I am to my goals. (Yay for copy and paste...I'm feeling lazy today)

Writing
Weekend Pass (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4819981/1/Weekend_Pass)
is finished! Woot! I even got it done a day ahead of my tentative new deadline. PW loved it! Its all posted and the hard copy is wrapped and sealed and ready to mail...so no more updates on this one! Cuz it is crossed off the LIST!

"What if...? [13+]
Storm Machine consulted on it and gave me some good advice and also gave the boys last names. But other than that...its been rambling around in my head, but I haven't actually done anything with it. *head desk* This weekend...I MUST do something with it! I've got a few ideas going in about 15 directions so I need to do SOMETHING.

I am going to write the dinner...just need to figure out the details...way down on the list right now though.
The Worst Thing http://community.livejournal.com/savecolby/349974.html
He's the Father?! http://community.livejournal.com/savecolby/350774.html

I did get another idea for a story...I haven't done anything with it, but jot the idea down. Does anyone remember the poem about the children and the days of the week? Ya know: Monday's child is fair of face/Tuesday's child is full of grace, etc. My idea is to write a little vignette for each day about a child that does or does not fit the saying...I want each to be 300 to 500 words so it will help me keep to a word count (hopefully) and also write to a prompt. But I haven't actually started it yet. That's also on the To Do list.

Editing
Does anyone notice I really hate editing? I mean I seriously, really hate editing. I will put it off as long as I'm able. (Hence the reason I still have the chapter from last summer of "Handbook" that I haven't edited!)

But! I did edit. Yesterday and today even!

I edited Storm Machine 's story, Aerial Maneuvers, for her. Yes, I realize it's not on my list, but she's helped me a lot and I was happy to return the favor. Hopefully my comments helped her since I went paragraph by paragraph.

I also edited and then sent to Dawn☆Embers my story "Never Forget [ASR]. If she agrees with me that nothing else needs to be done with it, I will start shopping it next week. I have already begun looking for places.

"Never Again [ASR] needs more than a little editing so I am hoping to get to that one over the weekend. If not this weekend, then next. I will get it done! Maybe Wednesday night?

I have two poems, "My Muse" and "To War" set to send out and am looking for places to send them (have to go through the possibles I've found).

Blood Oath is on hold for this week for Writing Meeting, instead I submitted "Drunken Scotsman [18+]

Contest
I knew I forgot to do something! I will go into chat this weekend and plug it. Will also plug on the contests' page and also in the GC review page. That's about all I can think of to do.

So I accomplished a little more this week, but not as much as I hoped to. Still progress is progress.

Edited: 3-28-2009 @ 1:21 pm EDT

So it's Friday...which means I must update and tell y'all what I have been doing writing wise. And see how close I am to my goals.

Writing
Weekend Pass (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4819981/1/Weekend_Pass)
I have been working pretty steadily on WP and have it pretty well mapped out in my head. I'm on what I think will be the last scene, have it started, and if I can just find the time to sit down and write it...I should get it done pretty soon. I'm aiming for having it completed and posted to both ff.net and savecolby by Monday, 2/16.

"What if...? [13+]
I'll admit it, I've been bad with this one. I haven't done anything. I re-read what I had started a couple of times, but I'm not sure exactly where I am going with it. And I can't submit to Writing Meeting because the judge is there. *sigh* So I'll have to see if I can beg a consult from someone over the weekend. But I need to crack down and get myself working on it.

On the positive 'yeah I'm writing side' I wrote two other stories in two days this week. On the negative side...both were fan fic which I really, really want to stop writing. Also I have a feeling I'll be writing one more at some point in the near future to sum up the whole little series I have going here. But I guess I'll take it as "yay, I'm writing'.
The Worst Thing http://community.livejournal.com/savecolby/349974.html
He's the Father?! http://community.livejournal.com/savecolby/350774.html

Editing
Just put this under, I haven't done a thing. I can't seem to get any motivation to edit. I know I need to do it because if I don't edit, I can't submit, but I've always hated editing...so I need to think of a motivator. If anyone has suggestions, let me know. I think I need to pick a day or two where I don't write and all I do is edit all day...but that will start next week I think.

On the plus side, Storm Machine and I spent an evening chopping one of my stories (she chopped, I followed directions) for the UEN and I WON! *Shock*ed completely when I got the email. So at least that was a positive. "The Phone Call [GC] if you want to read the chopped version. She did a lot of hard work since it had to go down from like 3000 words to 1000!

I got good, helpful feedback about "Blood Oath [13+] at Writing Meeting last week and encouragement that there was something I could save there. It's going to take a lot of work, but I might be able to send it to an editor at some point. I will need to do some changing around and movement, but I'm almost hesitant to start editing until they've read the whole thing. I guess I'll let them go through the chapters I've got posted and then edit some of it.

But next week, I want to edit "Never Again [ASR] and "Never Forget [ASR] or at least get a good jump on them so I can start sending them out again. "Never Again [ASR] has a possible location because the editor said he'd look at it again if I did a re-write (and figured out how to double space in gmail), but I need to start looking at flash fiction locations (and try not to get side-tracked in the meantime).

Contest
I've been plugging, but still no entries as of yet. I know that a couple of people are writing for it, but I think I need to more actively plug it. The problem is I'm always on scroll at the same time so I see the same people. Maybe I need to venture into chat a little bit? Its something to consider.

Posted: 2-6-2009 @ 1:03 pm EST
