206.  what's the big deal?ID #639075
Posted: 3-6-2009 @ 8:31 am EST

I'm headed off to work soon, but I just realized I didn't talk about yesterday's trip to the dentist yet.

The root canal was nothing. Do people not like them because of the (rumored) pain? or is it the price? It was so quick & pretty painless.

I did feel a little pain when they started drilling, but they stopped and were able to "shut off" the nerve from the outside... Don't ask me how, I didn't ask the dentist. He said if I would have waited longer, they wouldn't have been able to do that and they'd have had to drill into the tooth and shut it off from the inside, which can be really painful. So if you need a root canal, get it right away!

It was just like getting a filling, which they also did to the tooth next to the one getting the root canal. I think they said they can have me finished in 4 trips. Next on is St. Patrick's Day. I think I'll try it without anxiety meds next time.

My tooth is sore today, though... I don't know if that's normal. They said I'd feel soreness in my jaw and gums (I have a very strong ibuprofen to take care of that), but the actual tooth is hurting when I press down on it or if I accidentally bite down on that side. I'm not sure I'm supposed to be able to feel anything there... I'll have to ask them about it. They said they'd call me today to check on me, but I'm working 9:45 to 2:15 today.

Another damn selling session today, crab sandwiches for Lent. I hope customers are nicer this time... Except that when we were selling these sandwiches on Ash Wednesday, they were $1. Now they're 2 for $3. Let's hope no one remembers... *Laugh*

Happy Friday! Smile

Quick question: poisonivy and I were invited to judge a battle of the bands competition this Saturday. Should we do it?

See, we have had a bad experience judging... where we were counted as 2 of 3 judges, so the bands that lost blamed it solely on us. (We were yelled at by their Moms!) *Laugh*

But I love judging battle of the bands competitions! So I'm thinking we should do it...

The bad side: Being disliked by losing bands, having to be at the club for 8 hours

The good side: Free drinks!, being seen as "experts" or important people in the local scene (good publicity)

I'm thinking we should do it... Any opinions?

Happy New Year!

All around me, I see people making choices to be healthier people, and it makes me happy. *Bigsmile*

My goal for the new year - get enough fiber & take my Omega-3 supplements every day. I'm doing the Kellog's All-Bran 10-day challenge. I'm also going to try eating more fresh fruits and veggies. Smile

Another goal of mine is to maintain my weight. I lost 30 pounds last year! *Delight* So I know how to lose weight and I know how to gain weight (who doesn't, right?), but I need to learn how to maintain my current weight.

My sister's become a veggie. *Laugh*
No really, see -> poisonivy

Yay for goals and healthier people! What are your goals for the new year?

I'm not a fan of Veggie Tales, but I came across this really short cartoon (that doesn't mention Jesus in any way):

{http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dnKKcPncQ0}

I think it's the cutest cartoon ever!!

(And to make this an official "joblog" - Working at the outside seafood sale isn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but my toes keep freezing! Any advice on how to keep my toes warm?)

11 days to Christmas! Holy crap!!

Though I don't like perpetuating email forwards... I do like inspirational things that aren't preachy.

In July 2006, a short 3-minute movie was launched on the Internet called The Dash. Since then, over 40 million people from around the world have watched it; and over 20,000 a day continue to watch it as a result of people passing it along.

The movie has been more successful than ever imagined. More importantly, however, it has inspired many, many people to reflect on their lives and ask that all important question, 'Are my priorities where they should be?'

I hope you enjoy this movie and share it with those who are close to you.

1. What time is it?
1:32 p.m.

2. How many phone numbers do you currently have memorized?
1. My own
2. My cell phone
3. Work
4. My last house's number
5. Ivy
6. Mom & Dad
7. Mr. J's parents
8. Gram (now my cousin's number)
9. SIL's number
10. MIL's work number
11. Uncle W

3. Who's your favorite Sim, ever (living or dead; created or townie--it doesn't matter)? Oh God, I miss the Sims. I wonder if my computer could handle it...

4. Verb a noun. Go on. Do it.

5. What time of day (or night) do you most feel like writing?
morning

6. What time of day (or night) do you feel most like sexing?
early afternoon

7. What song are you currently listening to?
an episode of the Simpsons, actually - "Bart Gets Famous" (the infamous "I didn't do it" line)

8. How long is your hair?
just under my chin in the front, shorter in the back.

9. In fantasy worlds, magic-users are often divided into 'alignments' or 'factions,' if you will. In Magic: The Gathering, we have white magic (healing magic); green magic (nature magic); blue magic (illusional magic); red magic (destructive magic); and black magic (death magic). In DragonLance, there are white-robed mages (practitioners of "good" magic), red-robed mages (neutral wizards), and black-robed mages ("evil"). In your own fantasy world, what types of magic would there be, and what dress-code, if any, would denote those who practice each kind of magic?
Wow, this is a really involved question... I always liked the magic users best in RPGs. Sure, I appreciate my warriors & thieves, but I really try to build up my magicians, too.

10. Jesus Christ--Lord, or swear word?
To me, swear word

11. What's your favorite (auto)biographical book?
Don't have one, actually. I haven't read many and I don't particularly love the few that I've read (mostly about musicians).

12. How many writing.com journals/blogs do you have favorited?
59 in my Journals folder, 21 in FtL (currently judging those, but they'll probably all move to Journals after the round is done), so 80 in total.

13. Have you ever been so disappointed with a store or restaurant, that you vowed never to return?
No, I don't think so.

14. On a scale from 0 to 100, 0 being completely straight, 50 being equally attracted to both men and women, and 100 being completely gay, where are you?
40

15. The difference between Democrats and Republicans is...?
not much

16. What was your favorite song when you were 16?
Smashing Pumpkins

17. What was your favorite song when you were 12?
Probably "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.

18. What was your favorite song when you were 8?
"Kokomo" by Beach Boys

19. What was your favorite song when you were 4?
probably a nursery rhyme or something by Bruce Springsteen *Laugh*

20. Does learning someone's zodiac sign ever change your opinion or expectations of them?
Not really, since I don't know what the other signs (besides my own and my husband's) mean.

21. What's a trend or fashion that you thought, at one point, was just so cool but seems totally ridiculous now?
everything from the 80s? *Laugh*

22. List every entertainment system you've ever owned, along with your favorite game for each system.
Atari--I forget the name of the game, but it was two-player, where you were something at the bottom that had to shoot at things flying over you. I loved it because Ivy and I played it together.
Nintendo--Dragon Warrior
SuperNintendo--Super MarioKart
PlayStation--Final Fantasy VII
Nintendo64--Perfect Dark
Gamecube--Animal Crossing
PlayStation 2--Batman Lego
(soon to be Wii--probably Animal Crossing:City Folk)

23. Name one or two grammar-related pet peeves.
same thing as Jenn - omitting that last comma. I've heard either way is acceptable now, but I still like it the old way. The "than vs. then" one bugs me a lot. Ooh, and people spelling it "alot." *shudders*

24. Have you ever seen a stranger (on the street, in the supermarket, etc.) who was so unbelievably gorgeous that, years later, you still remember them?
Well, there was this girl in WaWa once that Mr. J and I found bewitching. I don't remember what she looked like, but she smelled like cotton candy. Everyone in the store stopped what they were doing and watched her.

25. What's your favorite fraction?
3/8
(One thing that's been driving me nuts lately at work. People ask for "between 1/4 and 1/2" of lunchmeat. What they mean is 1/3. Why won't they say 1/3? Do they think I don't know what 1/3 is? Do they not know? I don't get it...)

Fun survey! Thanks Jenn
