Wow, these conversations/thoughts are always tough. Good on you and your mom for actually having a real conversation about it!

Here's my (current) take on things.

There is no way to know whether or not another person is going to heaven or hell. That is between them and God.

As for where I'm going....hm, how to say this without sounding flippant. Um, it doesn't matter. For me, Christianity isn't about getting to heaven. It used to be and that ended very, very badly. No, being a Christian doesn't mean a pass to paradise. God is good and to serve Him, to recognize his Holiness and goodness, is the point of Christianity. Even if I were guaranteed going to burn in hell for eternity, that wouldn't change the fact of His goodness and the fact that I should serve Him.

Do I hope for heaven? Yes, I'd be mad not to. But that is only by the grace of God and nothing that I say or do.

Wonderful entry heading into Holy Week. As you stated perfectly, it IS taking Him at his word. Any hedging on that is basically saying you're not fully sold on His promises. Having that kind of faith isn't always easy, of course, but ultimately that is what God wants from us.

Religious debates are always tricky.

To me God has to be a forgiving entity, but then in my religion there is no heaven or hell, just a spiritual afterlife.

As always I'm in awe of anyone who can attempt NaNo and I'm sure you'll do a great job whatever you choose.

On that theme the word 'ambition' springs to mind. Good luck whatever your choice.

I was just reading from James this morning....thinking hard about ACTING with faith and not just HAVING faith. Which isn't exactly what you're entry is about, but it's definitely related. So thankful that God never moves. It's like the line from that one song..."no matter where you are, you haven't gone too far."

We actually used our little AC yesterday too. Well, my wife did. I stood in the cold creek fishing which is kind of the same only not.
