Well, D.T. Conklin and I (mostly Dan) have been working on a new website for Evolved Publishing, this one menu-driven and more dynamic. We like it, and we think you will too. Check it out.

We haven’t got all the bells and whistles 100% yet on the blog, for subscriptions and sharing and the like. We’ll have that all addressed before the new year, at which point we’ll actually start blogging there as a group.

Lane Diamond has asked me to stop in and talk one more about my dilemma: Mitchell Norton—murderer, destroyer of dreams, the monster who keeps me up nights.

At a shared writers' site such as WDC, things are a little different, but for the pure Author (Seller) / Reader (Customer) relationship, the issue of reviews is not so simple.

This is a continuation of my last post, though I focus on a slightly different element of SHOW, DON’T TELL.” Those three little words constitute one of the High Commandments of effective writing. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? Yet it requires commitment, determination, vigilance and inexhaustible effort.

20.  SHOW, DON’T TELL: Make Characters Blind, Deaf and DumbID #737523
Posted: 10-21-2011 @ 7:13 am EDT

When you allow the reader to experience your story at the instant your characters do, you make it possible for her to share in the emotion and impact of the moment. This mechanism, more than any other, draws a reader right into the story as though she’s a spectator at the scene.

I believe story structure is wide open, a playground where you can kick the ball around and have some fun. There’s only one requirement: Keep the reader turning those pages.

"That is to say, I hadn’t figured out how to [self-publish] in a way that ensured at least a real possibility of success. What were my chances if I decided to go it alone? Not good. Daunting. Scary. After all, I didn’t have a backlist, an established following, a famous, widely recognized name. I was John Q. Nobody."
