Not so much a blog per se as a place to keep track of my links, notes, goals, and progress towards my ultimate goal of being published.

Although I have a regular journal/blog over at http://www.livejournal.com/users/shanachie13 (that I have been really bad about updating), I decided to start this here to keep track of just my writing goals and progress. So I have this and I have dates...and we'll see how this goes. I'd like to attempt to update it each Friday and keep things in progress. That doesn't mean I won't update at other times, but I'm going to commit to once a week for now.

Ultimate goal: To be published.
Time Frame: By December 2009 (does this seem unrealistic?)

Wish me luck!

I made a list last night of all my writing books that I have and figured I would post a link to it here. The actual list is over on livejournal.

From the book Write Starts comes a prompt and some new ideas...I'm posting them over on my livejournal account under the tag "writing prompts" so you can always see them there. No idea how often I will be posting them at this point.

We'll be sharing recipes all week (and maybe in the coming days) over here...take a gander and pick up some new ideas! And maybe a new book on Saturday!

I posted my recipe as part of (http://celestialgldfsh.livejournal.com) Beth Cato's "A Recipe for Everything But Rain and Rainbows" Recipe Exchange! Eat some good food while you (http://www.readmountainmagic.com) read a good book.

Om nom nom.

I would just like to say...I met Mark Sheppard (Badger) yesterday...and he is one of the nicest, sweetest people I have ever had the privilege to speak with.

Okay so more years ago than I care to admit to, I was an English major in college. And I got to do all these cool essay and research things sometimes. Apparently I miss these things because the back of my head has been thinking about one of the essays I worked on back in the day.

I had to read an article (which I unfortunately do not have now) about women in the media and would like to do a study about fictional women in movies and television. I'd like to pick a woman from each decade starting I think in the 50s or 60s and move into now. What I'm looking for is ideas of what to look at, articles to use as background, who I should include, pretty much anything. At this point I'm just gathering ideas and not sure what or where exactly I'm going with it.

The women I'm thinking of so far are:

June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver
Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie
Princess Leia from Star Wars
Padme Amidala from Star Wars
7 of 9 from Voyager
Parker and Sophie from Leverage ??
Starbuck from the new Battleship Galactica
Leeloo from 5th Element

Obviously that's probably more than I'll be able to include...but who knows since I have no idea how long I'm going to make this...ideally I may end up shopping this around depending on what I end up writing, but we'll see where I go with it.

ETA: Okay so I've already narrowed my focus a little...I am for sure going to stick to film/television and I'm going to narrow it to just science fiction and fantasy so people from that genre are in and others are out.

So taking people in and out...

adding also

Maureen Robinson from Lost in Space
Samantha from Bewitched
Areyn Sun from Farscape
Urhura from the original Star Trek

obviously just because I'm naming people doesn't mean I'm going to end up using them...just making a list at this point. And I'll update more as I make changes or get more ideas.

I did a snippets post on my other journal which I will link here, you want the one entitled "Snippets".

Okay not something I normally do here...but Morrigan and the old computer ate my address book...so if you'd like me to send you a Christmas card this year...please EMAIL me your snail mail address within the next couple of days. I'm going to be sending them out like the first or second week of December so the sooner you get them to me the better.

Thanks! And if anyone wants my new one, just let me know when you email me and I'll send it back to you.

So most of y'all know that I'm going to start mini_nanowrimo next week. And I'm starting to gear up to get ready for it...in preparation I am already trying to make time each day to write...and so I am going to keep track of my word count each day and post it on here.

So I've committed to 150 words each day for the month of November. I'll be posting my own count here on my journal and also posting in the daily posts on the site.

October 25--writing on Movies2 (working title)--word count 943
October 26--writing on Chris and Royal Preview--word count 734 (http://community.livejournal.com/rpf_chris_royal/565.html)
October 27--writing on Chris punches Dick (for sure working title)--word count (minus borrowed lyrics) 1724
October 28--finishing Night at the Movies (working title Movies2)--word count 403 (http://shanachie-quill.livejournal.com/38866.html)

Okay gearing up for Mini-NaNo next month (write 150 words a day...not 50K in a month) and yes I realize that seems like a small amount for me, but more is better and all that...I'm attempting something and hoping I meet my goal...if I exceed it all the better.

Anyway...I'm gathering story ideas and notes, etc. and I came across this old idea. I never did anything with it because it's not enough of a story prompt for me to do anything with. If anyone has any ideas or can point me in a direction...be my guest. I always give credit, etc. This is what I was given so far:

Somebody gets killed? Hmmmm no ninja stuff, how does one find an assassin without getting caught and if one is not rich, local biker bar (picture little cute girl walking into the Hells Angel hangout to request that somebody assassinates her hubby...) *shrug* The search for the assassin is not an easy one -

So anyway...go on from there.
