"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 27th, 2013: Blog. Tell us about your week, include your favorite blog entry from your fellow challengers from the preceding week, and, most importantly, why.
This week has been filled with writing, reading, reviewing, school and homework. Good times. *Pthb*
On a bright note, I'm still reeling over the fact that I became a ~~Image #4000 Sharing Restricted~~ this week! *Delight* That made the week much better. *Smile*
I'm currently involved in three 30 day challenges: "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS, "Invalid Item and "Invalid Item. I wonder how long I'll be able to handle that.

This week has been so crazy that the only entry that sticks out in my mind is Wordsmitty ✍️ 's take on the forced laughter prompt: "What a joke!. I much prefer laughing at his witty entry over forcing myself to laugh.

Hope everyone had a great week! *Heart*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 26th, 2013: Write a review of an animated film that you've seen.
My favorite animated film is "The Lion King". It's a coming-of-age story of a young cub's journey into adulthood to fulfill his destiny of being king of the jungle. The movies features love (Simba and Nala), loss (the death of Mufasa) and conflict (Simba's battle with his Uncle Scar). In the end, Simba is triumphant and takes his place as king.

The movie has a great soundtrack, with most songs being performed by Elton John. There are lessons to be learned for the young and old alike in this movie. It is a terrific view for all ages. *Heart*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 25th, 2013: Forced Laughter and Laughter Therapy http://www.laughteryoga.org/
Comment on the site, do some research of your own, and write a blog on the topic of Forced Laughter!
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today because I have a ton of homework to do this weekend, but I'm not receptive to the idea of forced laughter. The 4 minute video didn't impress me at all, and I found absolutely nothing about it that made me want to laugh.

I am not a fan of forced or contrived laughter. I do believe that laughter is sometimes contagious, and I often erupt in giggles just by seeing one of my friends doing so. However, I don't believe I need "Laughter Therapy" to do that. *Pthb*

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 25, 2013: What comfort measures do you use for your loved ones when they're sick with a cold or flu? Or, what do your loved ones do for you when you're sick with a cold or flu?
When my loved ones are sick, I do everything I can to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible. I usually make them homemade chicken noodle soup when they begin to feel sick. I stock up on various cold medications, cough drops, Kleenex and anything else they ask for. I check up on them regularly and try to do everything I can to show them I care. *Heart*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 24th, 2013: Two days ago (Jan. 22nd) was the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade case overturning a Texas interpretation of abortion law and making abortion legal in the United States. What are your thoughts on abortion? (Take a look at the links for information on the case:
OK, I'm now having flashbacks of my second semester Constitutional Law class. *Worry* For the purpose of this prompt, I'm just going to discuss my opinion on the matter notwithstanding the underlying law.

I am pro-choice. I think women should have the right to decide whether or not to have an abortion. While I would not choose to do so unless there were serious health concerns, I wouldn't try to interfere with anyone else's right to do so. There are so many factors that I am not going to discuss, such as fathers' rights, religion, health concerns, term of the pregnancy...the list goes on. I could argue from a legal standpoint, but I had to do that in my Con Law class and am trying to repress memories of that class. *Laugh*

My ultimate answer is I think women should have the right to decide. I once saw a bumper sticker that perfectly set forth my opinion on this matter: "Against abortions? Don't have one."

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 24, 2013: List your top five strengths.
1. Determination. My determination has allowed me to prevail in many situations in which a lot of people would have given up.

2. Empathy. Although it sometimes seems to be a curse, I am glad I have this strength as it allows me to become closer to people and help them during difficult times.

3. Memory. I have a good memory which has proven very beneficial in my job and school life.

4. Ability to forgive. While this, too, sometimes seems more like a curse than a blessing, I am glad that I have the ability to forgive my friends and loved ones and not hold grudges when they hurt me.

5. Grammar/spelling skills. I just wanted to throw something about my writing in here. I have good editing skills and am often quick to find spelling and grammatical errors in writing. I love reviewing items for such errors. *Bigsmile*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 23rd, 2013: Take a look at the linked image of the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Recount a trip you took to a l monument/memorial/historical site of significance, and relive your emotions. How did you feel, and why? If you have never been to a national monument/memorial/historical site of significance, which would you most like to visit and why?

I'm just going to go with the most recent place I have visited. Last year, my boyfriend and I went to Seattle for Spring Break. And I fell in love with the Space Needle and its wonderful view. It is much higher than I imagined it would be, and being that far about everything gave me a sense of freedom that I can't explain. Unfortunately, it was much colder up there, so I didn't get to enjoy the view for very long.

As a side note, the seafood in Seattle was amazing. It was a wonderful trip. *Heart*

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum If you could be involved in making a movie, would you rather act or direct?

I would much rather act. I used to take part in various plays in high school and college, and I really enjoyed it. My favorites were "Dracula" and "Grease".

I just don't think I'm cut out to be a director. I don't even want to imagine the disaster that I would create on the set! *Laugh*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 22nd, 2013: Do you think people are inherently good or bad and why?
I think people are inherently good. I think the "bad" people became that way because of situations they faced in their childhoods. I have a background in psychology and did many practicums in jails and mental health facilities. And the one characteristic that seemed prevalent in the clients I worked with was some type of childhood trauma.

I'm not, in any way, implying that people who suffer from some type of mental illness are always bad people. They're not. In fact, some of the greatest people I have ever met have suffered from some type of mental illness. Nor am I implying that people who had childhood trauma are bad. I know this is not true. But all of the people that I have met who are bad have met these guidelines.

I do think it's possible that some people could just be born bad, but I think these instances, if they exist at all, are few. Maybe they are born without the same coping mechanisms that most of us have, or maybe, in Freud's view, there's some type of imbalance in the id, ego and superego. But, generally speaking, I think people are inherently good.

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 22, 2013: Describe five things you want to see or do before it's too late.

1. Travel to Europe. I have always been interested in visiting Europe, but work and school have always stood in my way.

2. Go on a cruise! I had the chance a couple of years ago, turned it down and have regretted it ever since.

3. Write a novel. I have always wanted to write a novel, and I have so many ideas floating around in my head but have never taken the time to even start one. I do know that I would want to write in in the psychological or thriller genre.

4. Become a respected attorney. Hopefully, I'll pass the bar exam in July and this dream will come true within a few years.

5. Do something to really make a difference for those less fortunate. I have always tried to help those who are less fortunate by doing small things, i.e. cooking and mowing the lawn for elderly neighbors, buying toys for Christmas for children whose parents couldn't afford it, etc. However, I would like to be able to do something HUGE to help several people at once.

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 21, 2013: Convince me why you appreciate either preparing or eating a home-cooked meal. Describe the preparation or the consumption of a homemade food you enjoy.
Who doesn't prefer a home-cooked meal? Eating out gets old fast, and I very much prefer a home-cooked meal over fast food.

While there is a variety of home-cooked meals I enjoy, My favorite is chicken and dumplings (I mentioned this earlier in a post for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum. It instantly transports me to my childhood when I didn't have a worry in the world. It was my favorite meal growing up, and my mom would always cook it for me on special occasions.

I have tried unsuccessfully to cook the meal myself. Even if I follow my mom's recipe to the letter, it's always a disaster. Therefore, I always look forward to visiting my parents and having this wonderful meal!

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 21, 2013: Name something you no longer worry about.
There are a lot of things I no longer worry about. I used to be a compulsive worrier, and I've learned to control it over the years. I would have to say that the main thing I no longer worry about, though, is my health.

I used to be somewhat of a hypochondriac. If I felt the least bit sick, I would convince myself that something was horribly wrong. Then, in January, 2011, I really did get sick. I would suddenly be overcome by dizziness, and my lips and right arm would tingle and go numb. I finally went to the doctor, and after informing me that I could be suffering from leukemia or multiple sclerosis, he finally discovered that I was suffering from a condition called "essential thrombocytosis", a genetic blood condition that causes my platelet count to skyrocket. High normal blood platelet count is 450,000. When I went to the hospital, mine was 1.6 million. Because of that, I had had several mini-strokes.

I finally recovered from the mini-strokes, which wasn't easy while trying to get through my first semester of law school. I came to the University of Dayton School of Law which allows you to finish in 2 years instead of 3 by going 6 consecutive semesters with no time off. I started in May, 2011, less than 4 months after getting out of the hospital.

My condition is controlled my medication now - one of the pills I have to take is referred to as a chemo pill - and I often forget that there's even anything wrong. The experience really made me put things into perspective and be thankful for my health instead of worrying about what "could" happen!

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 19th, 2013: Write a poem utilizing the phrase, "I remember when..."
Oh, geez! Not another poem! I, who am not a poet, have been writing one poem per day for the past week for "Invalid Item. I refuse to admit defeat, though, so here goes:

I remember when he held me,
soft caresses, soothing words,
wrapped in our own cocoon.

Now my heart is wounded,
turning into a rotting carcass
as he lies in an eternal sleep.

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 19, 2013: Describe an individual whom you know and admire. What traits do you like about this person?
The first person I thought of when reading this prompt was my mother. At 64 years of age, she continues to work and cannot imagine being idle. She motivates me and encourages me. She is selfless and is more concerned about others than herself. When one of her friends our neighbors is having a difficult time, she is there offering strength, support and encouragement.

My mother has shaped the person I am today (we can't hold that against her - she tried to do better), and she continues to be there for me under any and all circumstances. She always reminds me of my blessings, and I always feel better after a long talk with her. *Heart*

"30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS Prompt for January 18th, 2013: What does humor mean to YOU? What tickles YOUR funny bone? Is there anything you laugh at that others don't?
Now, this is a tough one. Humor means a variety of things at different times to me. If I'm particularly sleepy, I sometimes erupt in giggles at the most mundane things. In that regard, I would have to say yes, I do laugh at some things that others don't.

Humor means lots of things to me: a funny movie, a good joke, an embarrassing situation after-the-fact, a childish prank played on a friend, some cute things that kids say, the act of a good stand-up comedian, seeing my cats do crazy things...I could go on with this list for hours.

What tickles my funny bone is also dependent on my mood. If I'm in a playful mood, I'm easily amused. If I'm feeling down, it takes a lot to make me laugh.

I guess I'm sort of going to cop out on this one and end with a quote made famous by a US Supreme Court Justice: "I know it when I see it."

"Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum January 18, 2013: Are you more likely to tell it like it is, or to hold your tongue?
It's according to the situation. If I'm not likely to seriously hurt or offend anyone, I'll most definitely tell it like it is. If it's a matter I'm very passionate about, I'll tell it like it is. And, regardless of what I said above, if I'm pushed past a certain point, I'll tell it like it is.

Over the years, as I've said before, I've learned to choose my battles. Most of the time, I'm willing to hold my tongue if I know beforehand that there's nothing I can accomplish by telling it like it is. I am somewhat opinionated, but I'm always willing to try to see things from the perspective of the other side.

So, I guess my ultimate answer to this question is that it's according to the situation.
