I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? ![]() How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? ![]() |

I pulled the ace of pentacles in anticipation of a glorious 5 days off to celebrate my birthday. In the Herbal Tarot deck the card is associated with whole grains----and signifies wholeness, healing, new beginnings. |

From the GaianTarot----the eight of fire comes streaking into the cards today. Eight brilliant meteors lighting up the night sky. The message comes to quit being so starry-eyed---but like the meteors hurtling to earth--act swiftly on inspiration and enthusiasm this week! |

![]() This is a lovely card to begin a new week. I was web surfing and came across Rob Brezny's Free Will Astrology site. My horoscope for this week is one of success and removal of the obstacles and negativity that have been plaguing me lately. There has definitely been a clearing and a lightness of mood, recently. The horoscope was accompanied by an image of a chalice---and the words---THE FUTURE. I believe this image is from the Voyager Tarot and corresponds to the Ace of Cups. During a guided meditation before sleep last night---this symbol arose----in addition to the chalice ---the meditation had suggested a bird to come and carry our dreams----immediatly there arose the image of the Ace of Cups from the Herbal Tarot----a chalice oveerflowing with water, held by a hand coming from the clouds, below a pond, a lotus, and a dove---carrying an olive branch. The Tarot of Saints tells me that this card represents renewal, forgiveness, and the ability to find the essence of our soul. In the center of our unconcious mind is the sacred gift that represents our true purpose. And that was the essence of last night's meditation----finding our soul purpose and manifesting it in this world. I chose the above image though because it is not so mystical and esoteric. It is simple, warm, comforting and a bit whimsical. This card is a chalice overflowing------today I am acknowledging the love and abundance I have right here and now in my life. This card is a warm simple cup of tea----shared with friends and family. I recently finished a most wonderful audio CD----The Maytrees by Annie Dillard. It is a novel , but her language is so rich the book often reads as poetry. It is a simple, rich tale of love, domestic life, caring. I long to be Lou Maytree living by the sea in Provincetown.... In contrast, I am also reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown----not so simple a tale, not such a rich and poetic writer. I'm enjoying this book more than The DaVinci Code, though that was a good story. I am intrigued to see where he goes with his development of Noetic Science, the Masons, and the ultimate secret of the universe. It is easy to feel light and enlivened this week. Today is a New Moon....and SW Florida has turned cool. The humidity has disappeared, we are in the high 70's and the 50's at night. I can fling open my windows and turn off the A/C----on the road-----my top is down----and I have cranked up Van Morrison, John Coltrane, Joan Baez on the CD player. The younger set with their rap music ain't got nothin' on this ragtop granny! It promises to be an excellent week----Today I'm making meatloaf, sweet potatoes, and corn bread. I've decorated the condo in Halloween regalia. My birthday is in 2 weeks. Life is sweet. Dear reader----may your cup be overflowing this week. ![]() |

I pulled the 16th card of the Tarot a few days ago----and decided to ignore it. It's not a favorite image----and has always held negative connotations for me. This morning, I reshuffled my Herbal Tarot deck seeking another card--and of course--I drew The Tower again. I guess I need to wake up and smell the fire! A tower struck by ligtning----it is an image of fire, lightning, destruction. Even Joanna Colbert's Gaian Tarot pictures this card as lightning and fire. It can portend misfortune and trials. But like the yin-and-yang in everything there is a positive side to this card. It can also be seen as indicating transformation and sudden revelation. The Tarot of the Saints associates this card with St. Barbara---a chaste maiden---imprisoned in a tower by her father to punish her for her conversion to Christianity---he is struck by lightning--at the time he beheads his daughter. |

Orange is not one of my favorite colors. My wardrobe tends to blues, browns, and beige. I own one orange shirt. But I love that Joanna Powell Colbert has crafted her Elder of Earth in orange. Orange is the color of the second chakra-----it's that warm glow of our inner child. It's our sexuality and our creativity. I want to embrace orange. It's about allowing that uninhibited precious inner child free reign for her creativity. It's about starting...it's about knowing that with creativity, it's about the process, not the product. But how wonderful this elder woman is arrayed in her orange shawl....immersed in her creativity....enmeshed in play.....living joyfully....radiating orange from the center of her being. |

![]() she spins spanish moss wearing warrior's clothing: a purple bandana, denim shirt faded jeans she knows there is no getting back to normal chaos rules amidst the rhythym of spinning weaving cutting the thread. Joanna Powell Colbert has finished her last card in the Gaian Tarot. Her last card the Elder of Earth is a fitting meditation for this month of harvest, of autumn, of my upcoming Halloween birthday. I love that she has dressed her central figure in orange---so approptate for this time of year. For me this card is about celebrating the wisdom of age, the fact of surviving this far. the card speaks to me forcefully of a news article I read about a woman, a paraplegic, who spins Spanish moss--http://www.tampabay.com/features/humaninterest/article968162.ece The card speaks to me of strength, resiliency, fortitude, and of loving and being in tune with the rhythyms of Mama Gaia. It is about surrendering to the Three Fates----those cosmic spinners who spin, weave, and cut the threads of life. It is about surviving through Chaos and tragedy and still creating a beautiful tapestry---whether it be of homespun or of finest silk. It is about using what is at hand to create magic and beauty. Abundant blessings! |
