I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? ![]() How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? ![]() |

I pulled the magician card this morning. It set me to thinking about magic---not the pull rabbits out of the hat magic. Not even about ritual magic and alchemy----but about deep magic. C.S. Lewis believed that Christianity was about deep magic. I agree, when you consider the Christianity that was taught by Jesus, before popes and kings and politicians interfered. Jesus spoke of the deep magic of love. Of trust in the universe, of Abba, father, of extending acceptance to all. Jesus called everyone to the banquet table. |

This week-end I was using every oracle I own----well--more or less---to make a decision about accepting a new job position I was offered.
Gentle reader...may you have a blessed and healing Thanksgiving. I'll be working through the holiday...but hope to be able to spend a late dinner with family. Blessings to all! |

I pulled from the Haindl Tarot---Father of Wands in the East--King of Wands. This card is represented by an illustration of Brahma. But today, I am resonating more strongly with the Elder of Fire from Joana Powell Colbert's Gaian Tarot. ![]() She is a fitting image for the end of this Octave of All Souls--the eve of St. Martinmas Day--when bonfires are lit to celebrate the traditional end of harvest. This woman is a healer, a curandero, behind her is an altar for Los Dios de Muertes----I love her bundle of burning sacred herbs----smudging away negativity, bringing in sweet smelling positivity. Though she is an elder--her gaze is steady and strong--her arms are strong and muscular, she sits kneeling and cross-legged--physically strong and unhampered. This is the crone, the elder I want to be. Synchronistically, I learned today that my nephew Brett Denney has made the US Olympic Ski Team and will be competing in Vancouver in the Nordic Combined event. As part of the Olympic theme--Vancouver is incorporating indigenous, aboriginal peoples to carry the Olympic Torch and to be flame keepers. The Elder of Fire speaks to my heart and soul--to carry the torch of love, light and hope--and of experience---to carry on sacred traditions, to remain strong and carry sweet smoke wherever I go. Blessings! |

The four of fire is about holism and completion, it is about owning and reclaiming one's own power. The image from the GaianTarot shows a woman in the middle of a sacred circle lit with candles marking the four directions. Behind glows a full moon. |
