I first created my life plan when I was 16. I would grow up, go to college, find a job, find a husband and start a family. Most everyone has this plan and for most people, it works out. They go to college, they start a job, find the love of their life and have 2.5 kids. But unlike other kids my age, I also came up with a back up plan, or a Plan B, if you will. Plan B was, if when I reach 30, I'm not married, I would adopt a child.

I'm not quite to 30 yet, but it's become clear to me with many failed attempts at dating and a hectic and demanding work schedule, marriage is not something that will be happening in the immediate future. This brings my Plan B into some new light. I've gotten to a point in my life where I'm stable in my career and my life has become an every day grind. Wake up, go to work, come home, rinse and repeat. I have nothing that motivates me.

So I've decided that it's time I become a single mother. Despite what all the naysayers think about single mothers, I believe it can be done and I believe that I will do it and do it well. So this will be a chronicling of that journey. It will chronicle the ups and downs of preparing for pregnancy, getting pregnant, being pregnant and ultimately, the end game -- the baby.

After having spoken to my parents this weekend about my plan, they seem to be on board. My Mom likes the idea. My siblings living in separate states really didn't allow my parents to baby any of their grandchildren. My having a child will allow them to have that opportunity. My Dad seems to like the idea of me adopting a child instead, but I think he'll get on board with having the baby myself.

I've looked into "personal" artificial insemination. The donar semen that I would be getting comes from California and costs $490 a vial. I plan to give it a try sometime in the next two months. So there are a few things that I need to get done in preparation for this:

- Doctor's visit - I need to pay a visit to the doctor to make sure I am healthy enough to have a baby.

- Home addition - I will be taking out a second mortgage to pay for an addition to the house that will include a room for the baby.

- Ovulation calendar - I bought a calendar and will be tracking my ovulation schedule for a couple months to make sure I can inseminate myself during the correct time.

- Pre-natal viatmins - I've started to take some pre-natal vitamins to ensure if I do get pregnant, my baby will be healthy. It includes Folic acid.

Steps complete: Vitamins started.
