Silent Secrets

It's two in the morning and I lay alone in our bed.
Silently, I watch the clock creep.
The gas is off but you have whiskey to drink.
Silently, I heat our kids some bath water.
Late for work again because you didn't come home.
Silently, I take my kids to my mom.
I can have no friends because your jealousy interferes.
Silently, I meet my girlfriends for lunch.
Arguments that lead into the night as I beg you to leave.
Silently, I cry myself to sleep.
Eleven years of broken dreams and promises.
Silently, I make new dreams with my kids.
A job change I accept "for more money."
Secretly, I will need you less.
More time I can spend growing with my friends.
Secretly, building new relationships.
Weekends off and you spend them with your friends.
Secretly, I take a Sunday ride looking for a house.
Our last big fight you drunkenly pushed me down.
Silently, I leave with my two kids.
New job, new house and strong friends I raise my kids alone.
Secretly, pleased with my biggest accomplishment.
