A poem about the feelings after a loved one has left.

Dawn

The scent of you lingers
on my clothes
in my car
against the blanket
where you were.

At last, I close my eyes
to still feel
the heat of
your arms, your body
against mine.

Pain grips my shattered heart
as shadows
are banished
With light the sun has
taken you.

I hold to the feeling
fading scent
passion lost
the warmth that rescinds
you are gone.

Rays of light reach for me
dry my tears
warm my cheeks
beckon closed eyes, "Look,
the sunrise."
