The Magnificat of Pupa Muma Aamose

Seven.
Seven little bundles
Of fluff and fur.

I have given my
Beloved Akhe
Seven more babies.

Oh, they are a delight!
Five boys,
Joy of my heart,
And two little girls.

As each one came
I licked life into its body,
Drying it, warming it,
And guiding it to my
Life-giving milk.

Now they all lay
Safe and warm
Beside me,
Snuggling, nuzzling
In their dreamless
Newborn sleep.

It was a long day’s work,
But tonight we rejoice.

Note one – a magnificat is a song of praise

Note two – Pupa Muma and Papa Akhenaten Grey had three litters together, for a total of 13 kittens. I have never seen two cats who loved their offspring more. For the most part, they all lived long and happy lives. Only one, Yoda, is now left. When she is gone, it will be the end of an era.
