SOUL OF THE SOLDIER It’s a long road back, returning from war, It’s distance and time and a whole lot more. Memories remain locked in his head, As darkness descends, the nighttime he dreads. ~ The years pass on by but he can’t forget, From dreams he awakes in shivering sweat Remembering friends and living with pain, Sleep is illusive, this night all in vain. ~ His mind will not rest, just keeps racing on And so it will be until night is gone. Soul of the soldier who’s given his best, Living a lifetime, a mind without rest. ©8/22/05 Monty 10 meter.
